An excellent tool for contractors in the field of defence is the CanadaBuys tender opportunities page. THS and TBIPS solicitations are listed and can be easy to scan, once you figure out how to use the filters to reduce the thousands of solicitations down to something manageable. The Department of National Defence has improved dramatically lately in that the solicitations now seem to always have bid documentation downloads available to see the statement of work and conditions. The other links are more general in nature, but essential to running a business in this field. Almost all national defence positions require that contractors and their companies have controlled goods certification, so it is critical to complete that process early on. Criminal record checks are part of every security clearance upgrade. Facility security clearances are a painful necessity for some government contracts and the link will help with understanding if it is required for your needs or not. Finally, there is an insurance link to one company that offers business insurance to protect the company from legal risk. All of the links apply to my case, but may not be relevant to all contractors.
