Providing contract services is generally high risk and high reward. Pay can be quite good, roughly 10-50% higher than general-service military pay. However, contractors can and are let go at very short notice due to changing budgets and government reaction to scandals (like the Arrive-Can App scandal). There is always risk of difficulty in finding and landing the next contract. For retired military personnel with a pension to fall back on, this can be a lucrative career field as the gaps between contracts are more easily managed with other steady income. If you prefer steady employment and consistency, this is not likely a good career choice. For those that wish to take on new challenges and expand their horizons across the department, this can be an excellent career option.
